Well its been a while

So its been a long time from my last post and I would imagine that only people that stumble on this blog will be reading this.

The reason I have decided to post is that I have just realized it has been almost a year from my diagnoses of Coeliacs. I can not believe it has been that long it has gone really quick. It has been a challenge getting used to not being able to pick anything off the shelve and eat it. Having to read all the labels in the supermarket (some people do look at you a bit odd when you pick up almost every item on the shelf, read the label and then put it back when you see it contains something you can have.), getting used to not having normal bread etc etc.

I think one thing that makes living with Coeliacs in the UK is the items you can get on prescription. With the cost of a loaf of Gluten free bread almost £4 being able to order up to 16 items a month of the cost of a prescription is a god send. One of the first things I did when I was first diagnosed was to get a yearly card. It cost around £90 a year but this covers all the prescriptions you might have in that year. So where are it would cost me about £125 a month on prescription if I paid for all the items separate it cost me under £10 a month, that is good value for money.

As well as having Coeliacs I also take tablets for the Barretts and calcium and Vit D tablets and all was going well until about 3 weeks ago when I started to feel drained and bad stomachs much like I was before being diagnosed. I am 99.9% certain I have not eaten something with gluten in so no idea what it is this time round. I have been back to the Dr’s and just about to have another round of blood tests, so a year on yet more waiting to see what’s wrong with me.

One of the associated conditions of Coeliacs can be osteoporosis which is a condition that means your bones can become brittle, this is normally something that effect woman over the age 50 and is not something common in younger people (and more so in younger men), well I like to be different to everyone else!

I was referred for Dexa bone scans which mean they x-ray your hip and can tell you bone density. I had a score of -2 not sure what that really means but the letter told me I am showing signs of osteoporosis lovely, just what you want to read on a Saturday morning. I am waiting to see the consultant again to find out what this means for me. Its knocked me for 6 really, it felt like my body was going to crumble for the insides out. A friend told me of you know the film Unbreakable with Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson well he has that condition. Why thanks his character walks around with the stick all the time is that something I have to look forward to?

So there you go no idea when I will next post but once a year is not bad!
